The 24 km road march!
It started out in the afternoon...on Thursday. We had like 3 water parades hourly before the march started. Having to go to the toilet every 5mins...i grabbed my balls and rifle and tried to hold my pee while they were debriefing us. Then it started, after an entire school warmup. It was about 3pm then...under scorching heat, it seemed that the "air-con" in my helmet had turned up a notch.
I was platoon song IC and never once did i left the platoon without a song in order for them not to feel tired.. Our first pit stop was at the old Sispec parade square. It was really hot and we had a water parade. Could see everyone, even sergeants and commanders scurrying towards the shade.
15 mins later...We were told to put everything on and off we headed to Sanyongkong camp. This time round, the stupid terrain was rocky... and really really muddy. Urgh. The second 4 km was hell because of the terrain and heat. I paced the song according to the steps but could see that everyone was getting to be really tired. The response to the song was getting softer and softer.
We reached the second checkpoint opp. a training shed in Sanyongkong camp. It was fucking hot cuz this time round, there wasnt any shade. And it was like the expressway there cuz of the bloody mosquitoes. I could clap my hand and easily kill one.
It started to rain toward the end of our 15min break! Our spirits brightened this time! we headed off doing the infantry roar! Funny, we hit each other's backpacks and did it... We were the last company and last platoon of the entire school to head off. This time round, i made my way to the back and chatted with Sgts Uzairi, Jon and Lawrance. They were okay and for the first time, Lawrance wasnt being such an asshole. Sgt Zairi was shacked and this time, we "suaned" him by telling him "Oie sgt, look at us, we also carrying fullpack. we still recruits can take it"... but we were shacked as well lol..... Cuz he kept telling us that before... so time for his own medicine lol.
We reached Sispec again, this time for our dinner. It was getting dark already but we got western! Upon reaching, i got the platoon to chant out what we might get for dinner. So we guessed western! den kept chanting "western" with this tune that never dies. Then we were guessing brocolli for vege! and we chanted that...and really came out brocolli! LoL....
Our OC got us kit kat too! and we had a can of 100plus! ice cold! happy like fuck!
Then we took off to the malay village... This time we sang cartoon songs... from adams family, scooby doo, flinstones, batman, starwars all the way to classical tunes like Mozart. >.<
We played a game too... goes like... i hafta say a phrase...and the next guy has to come up with another phrase to rhyme with the last word of my phrase. and he gets a time limit. Its really fun! None of us got tired with playing that.
We came to the malay village...and let down everything. plonked ourselves onto our webbing and sat there awhile. Oh yah..me, jon, jek and eechuan were in front of Cougar Coy. And we were discussing a song....that 12 days of xmas song and we changed the lyrics...really funny.
And we started to sing that song on our 16-20th km back to Sispec. Looks like we visited sispec loads of times...urgh...tekong is really small...we just walk around it only.
This time we were kinda tired on the 20th km and 5th pit stop. But we didnt give up! so on the last 4km, we took out our whistles and started to sing. Our company was super kp. Sing all the funny pop songs. From aerosmith to savage garden. All the gay boybands were brought up again. And we made it back. Not a single one fell out from the march and it was a complete success.
After marching 24km...walking anywhere is no problem...it almost seems that we are flying without wings!!!
